Ghorepani means ‘horse water’, and this place used to be a welcome watering stop for the teams of horses, mules and ponies that carried loads between Pokhara and Jomsom. Though modern transport has replaced the traditional travel means, people still use horses and mules during migration to warmer places before the start of winter. The exotic horse caravans, with melodious bells that echo over great distances, are reminiscent of ancient Tibet.
